Being the “Churchy” mom…in Greece

I look at the above picture and I have to chuckle. My kids look so happy don’t they? Funny thing is, THEY made ME go into this tiny little chapel on the Greek island of Mykonos. It’s the first thing we noticed among the shops when we all got off the little tender boat from the cruise ship. They saw it first, and they wanted to go light candles. It is the chapel of St. Nikolas, and we had to check it out. They put their money into the can, and they bought the candles.

What does it mean to instill a love of the Church for your children? You don’t have to be the meanie. If you love the Church, they will too, but only if you start showing them very early the importance of God’s house. As you know, the longer you’re Orthodox, the more you love the beauty and healing of the Church.

I love this picture, because these three amazing kids grew into amazing adults that are still in the Church. No amount of rational discussion was necessary. Just some intentionality of purpose, and a lifestyle that placed the Church as a priority. Thanks be to God. I am so blessed!
